Apr 23: Shashaani wins the best IISE’s Modeling & Simulation Division Annual Teaching Award. The award will be granted at the award banquet during the IISE Conference and Expo in New Orleans.
Feb 23: Shashaani selected as a fellow of the Convergence Research (CORE) Institute. This fellowship will provide a solid foundation and network for the group’s future convergence research projects.
Nov 2022: Shashaani invited as presenter of the scholarship for women fundraiser entitled Global Frames of Reference: Advocating Ethical Voice, Economic Empowerment and Diversity. More details to follow in the coming weeks.
Sep 2022: Shashaani presents “Monte Carlo and Learning” for the Junior Faculty Interest Group of INFORMS.

July 2022: Maria Davila-Colon presents her data analytics research with the group in the REU research symposium poster session.
July 2022: Shashaani gives an intro to simulation session to ISE high school visitors.
June 2022: Shashaani elected as treasurer of INFORMS Simulation (I-Sim) Society for two years to work with Jie Xu (president), Enlu Zhou (VP / president elect), Henry Lam (secretary), and Bahar Biller and David Eckman (council).
June 2022: Two of the three teams selected from ISE562-Sp22 to attend the Simio competition were among the winners:
Team “Just Claudia” with members Claudia Donahue and Alexej Lozevski was selected the 1st place!
Team “95% confident” with members Daniel Malerich and Kelby Mace received an honorable mention!
April 2022: Vahdat wins the Outstanding Doctoral Scholar of the Year at 2022 C.A. Anderson Awards!
March 2022: A new paper titled “Wake Effect Parameter Calibration with Large-Scale Field Operational Data using Stochastic Optimization” submitted.
February 2022: Ha’s new submitted paper: “Latency considerations for stochastic optimizers in variational quantum algorithms” with M. Menickelly and M. Otten.
He joins Argonne National Lab in June 2022 for a second internship to work on Quantum Computing and Monte Carlo.
February 2022: Shashaani was a judge for the first 3MT thesis competition among OR and ISE students. The winner: Zach Traylor
January 2022: Proposal titled “Impact of Future Climate Events on NC Animal Agriculture Systems” was selected for funding under the Research and Innovation Seed Funding (RISF) Program at NC State.
December 2021: Vahdat wins the Winter Simulation Conference 2021 Diversity Award.
May 2021: Vahdat to join the Liberty Mutual Insurance and Ha to join the Argonne National Lab for Summer 2021 internship.
February 2021: Shashaani awarded the NC State Faculty Research and Development Fund for a project on Quantum Computing and Monte Carlo methodology.
